'05-'06. Lindsborg, Ks.

Another pull from what I am working on.

The boy was not handsome. He stuck out in the hallways as someone on acid would. He smiled at people, though it was a prideful smile. He wore headphones and played his music loud. The whole world around him was quiet and weird. It was the music in his head that made sense, that made beauty and that vibrated with him. With the headphones on he was disconnected from people who stared at him. They looked goofy just staring at him with his headphones on.

Sometimes he held hands with a younger girl in school. Sometimes they would talk after school, or sit together. He would put his headphones on her head and introduce her to his world. A world where the stupid universe was silent and all that sounded was the rythmic logic of music.

And as promised a clip from my book:

Riding in the passenger seat was, to the girl, more than god. Soft autumn wind, still warm from the sun, flowed into the open window. It touched her face and swam through her hair. The wind found passages between her toes, which hung lazily next to the outside mirror.  A tune from the radio crept out to challenge the wind and was swallowed by it. It didn’t matter who was driving as long as she was there, riding in the passenger seat.

I have 2650 words thus far, the goal at the end of the month is 50,000. Wish me luck!

In case y’all was unawares: November is National Novel Writing Month.

So instead of posting here often as I can, I am trying to write a novel. I will however, try to post occasionally, and maybe even include excerpts from my forthcoming novel.

Also I had a story today on the Denver Westword’s blog, this guy was really cool. I hope he makes his goal:

Above: Kyle says good bye to the low tide and the coast before we turn inland for Denver.

Below: More from Lakeside Amusement.
